  • Norma King Receives 2005 Keynote Award

Norma King was presented with the 2005 Kysar Keynote Award for her role in launching Sing for Life. The award, presented December 17, was the highlight of our annual Christmas get together.

The award goes annually to an individual who has been instrumental in influencing the story of our choir’s life.  When the board began discussions in early spring about how to make Mike’s Sing for Life dream a reality, Norma put her hand to the helm.  We all know Norma as a quiet soul, retired from a life of teaching and a faithful alto.  But few of us know that how deep the measure of respect and love she enjoys from former students and fellow teachers.  Using her reputation and influence, she convinced busy teachers in the Tahoma School District to participate with us.

She was able to enlist their support and the event eventually fell into place.  It was not easy to keep conversations going with busy music teachers, but she pursued her mission and kept the ball rolling along until our big concert in June. The result was a wonderful debut for Sing for Life.

Her job hasn’t ended.  Recently she delivered to us all the kids’ evaluations she had designed.  And she’s already identifying other schools she hopes to approach to expand Sing for Life next year.

The evaluations from the young singers were enthusiastic and we’ll be sharing them with you soon.  In the words of the young singers, “we were awesome.”

    Norma, you are awesome, too.
