Membership & Auditions
If you like to sing, we’d like to meet you! The Boeing Employees Choir has openings in all sections. We are always looking to recruit new members, and you do not have to be a Boeing employee or family member.
Singers are encouraged to attend a rehearsal to sample our varied repertoire and learn if our music suits your taste. We rehearse 7:00–9:00 p.m. Tuesdays (Sept-May) at Tibbetts United Methodist Church, 3940 41st Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98116, in West Seattle, just over the bridge. For more specifics and to notify us if we should be expecting you, please email president@boeingchoir.org.
How does one join the choir? Choir members are selected by an open audition process that primarily takes place in early September/October and again in January/February. All singers are eligible, but some priority is given to those associated with The Boeing Company. Final selection of new members rests with the music director for maintaining the blend and balance of the voices in the choir. Because most of our choir members are not professional singers, we work hard to achieve the level of excellence we have set for ourselves. As such, once you are a member, you must be present at 4 consecutive rehearsals to be eligible to perform.
What are auditions like? If you want to sing with us after attending a few rehearsals on Tuesday evening, you simply indicate that interest to our music director, who will ask to hear you sing sometime, either before or after a rehearsal. It is not a formal or intimidating experience, it’s just your chance to demonstrate your vocal aptitude and learn more about you.
What kind of commitment do you expect? We sing around 15 concerts a year, and expect our singers to make sincere efforts to attend all of our rehearsals as well. We have two performance seasons: fall/winter and in the spring. The season starts in early September and runs into May. The Christmas season is the busiest time of the year, but typically we are on hiatus for the last two weeks of December.
Members make annual tax deductible membership donations (we are a federally-recognized 501c(3) non-profit organization).
